An eight-year growth
and progress reports were presented to the city council by Mayor Joseph
Bayorgeon on Tuesday night. The report shows a near double in the assessment
rolls and 384 new homes in the city.
December 4, 1953
The city council
Tuesday night authorized the utility commission to proceed with the erection
and installation of the automatic traffic signals at the intersection of Lawe
Street and Wisconsin Avenue in accordance with the requirements as set forth by
the state highway commission.
December 9, 1953
Shown just before he
took his final trip on the Combined Locks switch run last Monday morning is A.
J. “Furgie” Nagan. He is retiring after over 46 years with the Chicago and
Northwestern Railroad. He started in 1907 serving as a conductor for most of his
career.
A groundbreaking
ceremony occurred last Sunday at the Kaukauna Methodist Church. Present for the
event were Rev. Roy Steen, Appleton District Superintendent; E. C. Nimmer,
Contractor; L. C. Smith, Chairman of the Finance Committee, and the Rev. George
Buchanan, pastor of the church. The project will consist of an addition to the
Epworth Home and a general remodeling of the interior of the building.
December 18, 1953
The city council
Tuesday night voted to accept the low bid for the purchase of a new ambulance
for the city to be delivered sometime in March of 1954.
December 24, 1953
Christmas being on a
Friday this year will result in a long weekend for the families in our city.
According to L. C. Smith of Thilmany Mill all the workmen and women with the
exception of some maintenance workers will take off at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday
and won't have to report back until--7:00 a.m. on Monday. Kaukauna Machine
Corporation, Roloff Manufacturing and Badger Northland have announced plans to
shut down in part over the three-day holiday.
The first-grade students at Nicolet school are
shown trimming their class Christmas tree. Standing on the chairs are James
Hendrickson and Jill Kobin. In the front are Dennis Veldman, Raymond Juneau,
Ronna Lyons and Ronald Lund.
The Christmas pageant at Nicolet school was
presented before the Parent Teacher Association. They are left to right. Dave
Foxgrover and Tom Johnson as two of the kings. Roland Wussow as Joseph, Barbara
Polley as Mary, Sherrill Kimpel as Angel Gabriel and Dennis Brogan and Donald
Fink as shepherds.

are the members of Den 3, Pack 27 Kaukauna Cub Scouts. The boys left to right

Some of Kaukauna high school students who
worked in the recent Save-the Children clothing drive are packing the bundles
which are destined to Korea and Europe. Front row Mary Hartzheim and Sarah
Brenzel, in the back row are Dan Brys, Louis Faust and Jim Otte.
