April 7, 1933
Regenfuss Brewery -The return of the
good old beer will be celebrated by the Kaukauna German Band here this evening.
The fifteen members will march from the Van Lieshout garage to the Regenfuss
Brewery, playing all the good old favorite German songs. How much amber fluid is
to be consumed is not known at this time, but it will undoubtedly be
sufficient, or at least enough to make the undertaking a success.
Anton Jansen was re-elected village president
in Little Chute Tuesday.
Martin Williams was elected President of
Combined Locks April 4 election.
April 11, 1933
Two Little Chute youths were rescued from the
Fox River Friday afternoon after clinging to their overturned rowboat for about
an hour. Martin Van Boekel and Peter Van Toll calls for help were heard by
workers at the pulp mill. Sylvester Vanden Heuvel went to their rescue.
April 14, 1933
John D. Lawe, Kaukauna's oldest
resident, passed away at home here Tuesday night following an illness of about
a year. Mr. Lawe was 95 years old. Honorable John D. Lawe, 95, picturesque
survivor of the generation of pioneer and son of the founder of Kaukauna, George
W. Lawe. Mr. Lawe had been a printer, an editor, soldier an owner of theatres
and hotels. In the Civil War he served under Generals Sherman and Grant and for
a time was aide de camp to General Grant. With his passing, the name of Lawe
dies. The home occupied by him was on the property once owned by Andrew
Jackson. It came into the possession of the Lawe family when Jackson was
President, and the deed bears the signature of Jackson. Lawe's father, George,
founded the city of Kaukauna and selected the name. George Lawe once owned the property from
Kaukauna through Appleton to Little Lake Buttes Des Morts. John D. Lawe will be
buried in Green Bay.

April 25, 1933
Joseph Mathias, 13 years old received a scalp
wound Saturday afternoon when he was accidentally shot in the head by a
companion, Charles Damrow, age 14 years while they were in the woods near the
city limits on the southside of Kaukauna. The gun, a 22-caliber revolver,
discharged the bullet glancing the temple of Mathias. The case was investigated
by officers of the police department.
April 28, 1933
R. H. McCarty, poor master, asks
that anyone having a vacant lot which he would like 'to donate for use by one
of the city’s unemployed to raise vegetables for his own use should contact him
as soon as possible.
Erection of a 200-foot suspension bridge over
the Wolf River at the Gardner dam camp in Langlade county, has started. The
entire project is being sponsored by Kaukauna people, the Thilmany Pulp and
Paper company the Rotary club. The work is being done by volunteers.
